Crusaders Set For Minutemen Invitational

  • The Holy Cross women's track & field team will continue its season at the Minutemen Invitational, hosted by the UMass-Amherst this weekend. The meet will take place at the Track & Field Complex in Amherst, Mass. starting at 11:30 am.
  • Last year, nine teams competed in the Minutemen Invitational in which UMass-Amherst placed first with 167.50 points, and Holy Cross placed fourth with 98 points. Notably, the Crusaders stole the spotlight in the 100, with former Crusader Tiffany Reid placing first, sophomore Melanie Forte (Milford, N.H.) placing third, and senior M. Siobhan Straub (Mattituck, N.Y.) placing fourth. Junior Erin Linnehan (Litchfield, N.H.) finished third in the 100 hurdles with a time of 14.88 seconds, Straub took third in the 200 with a time of 26.44 seconds, while junior Paige Sutherland (Groveland, Mass.) placed fifth in the 1,500 with a time of 4:47.46.
  • Last weekend, eighteen athletes represented Holy Cross at the Duke Invitational in Durham, N.C. Freshman Stephanie Okpoebo (Chelmsford, Mass.) hit a NEC qualifying and outdoor-season-best time of 25.67 seconds with a 15th place finish in the 200 dash. Senior Rose Calvo (Rocky Hill, Conn.) ran a personal-best time of 17:53.84 in the 5,000, while senior Courtney Burgess (Dracut, Mass.) ran a personal-best time of 4:50.85 in the 1,500. Juniors Katelyn Hartnett (Danvers, Mass.) and Sarah Mellea (North Arlington, N.J.) both had career-best performances in the 1,500 running times of 4:36.06 and 4:48.63 respectively. Harnett's performance qualified her for the New England Championship, while Mellea's performance was only 4.98 seconds shy.
  • Select members of the Crusader track & field team also traveled to Durham, N.H. last weekend to compete at the New Hampshire Invitational.  Junior Katelyn Andree (Colts Neck, N.J.) led the Crusaders with a third place finish in the steeple chase. Senior Megan McCormick (Newburyport, Mass.) ran a personal-best time of 14.50 seconds in the 100, while sophomore Katie Rochford (Red Bank, N.J.) ran a personal-best time of 5:21.48 in the 1,500.
