Holy Cross Track & Field Competes At Duke Invitational

DURHAM, N.C. – Senior Chris Bergan (Shrewsbury, Mass.) finished sixth in the 10,000 with a New England Championship qualifying time to lead the Holy Cross men's and women's track and field teams at the Duke Invitational on Friday-Saturday, April 8-9 in Durham, N.C. Bergan finished sixth with a time of 32:11.54. Junior Cory Loftis (Branford, Conn.) finished 12th in the event with a time of 32:56.39.

Junior Dan Altenau (Eastchester, N.Y.) qualified for the New England Championship with a 12th place finish and time of 9:24.84 in the steeplechase. Senior Brendan Medeiros (Fall River, Mass.) finished 26th in the 1,500 with a time of 4:00.29 and 35th in the 800 with a time of 1:56.65. Senior Alex Johnson (Indianapolis, Ind.) finished 16th in the long jump with a distance of 6.30 meters and 27th in the 400 hurdles with a time of 58.10 seconds.

The women's team was led by Junior Erin Linnehan (Litchfield, N.H.) with an NEC qualifying time of 15.23 seconds in the 100 hurdles, sophomore Brittany Gorski (Tewksbury, Mass.) qualified for the NEC in the 400 hurdles with a time of 1:05.59 and freshman Stephanie Okpoebo (Chelmsford, Mass.) hit a NEC qualifying time of 25.67 seconds with a 15th place finish in the 200 dash. Senior M. Siobhan Straub (Mattituck, N.Y.) finished 15th in the 100 with a time of 12.67 seconds, while junior Katelyn Hartnett (Danvers, Mass.) finished 14th in the 800 with a time of 2:12.21 and 14th in the 1,500 with a time of 4:36.06. Junior Paige Sutherland (Groveland, Mass.) placed 16th in her heat of the 5,000 with a time of 17:57.20, while senior Rose Calvo (Rocky Hill, Conn.) finished fifth in her heat with a time of 17:53.84. The 4x100 relay team finished 10th with a time of 49.19 seconds. Sophomore Sarah Meinelt (Topsfield, Mass.) placed 22nd in the triple jump with a distance of 10.50 meters and junior Alexandria Culkeen (Beverly, Mass.) placed 16th in the shot put with a distance of 12.26 meters.

The Crusaders will continue action next week at the Minuteman Invitational hosted by UMass-Amherst on April 16 at 11:30 a.m.
