DEDHAM, Mass. – Junior Erin Linnehan (Litchfield, N.H.) opened up the outdoor season with a first place finish in the 100 hurdles to lead the Holy Cross men's and women's track and field team at the Husky Open hosted by Northeastern on Saturday afternoon. Linnehan finished first in the 100 hurdles with a time of 15.92 seconds, while senior Megan McCormick (Newburyport, Mass.) finished fifth with a time of 17.43 seconds.
Freshman Stephanie Okpoebo (Chelmsford, Mass.) and senior M. Siobhan Straub (Mattituck, N.Y.) led the women's team in the sprint events, with Okpoebo finishing second in the 100 with a time of 13.02 seconds and Straub fifth with a time of 13.07 seconds. The duo also teamed up in the 200, with Okpoebo placing third with a time of 26.69 seconds and Straub placing fourth with a time 26.84 seconds. Sophomore Melanie Forte (Milford, N.H.) placed fifth in the 400 with a time of 1:04.26, while sophomore Brittany Gorski (Tewksbury, Mass.) finished fifth in the 800 with a time of 2:24.49 and freshman Lauren Bellerose (Shrewsbury, Mass.) took seventh with a time of 2:27.34.
Senior Alex Johnson (Indianapolis, Ind.) led the men's team with a third place finish in the 400 with a time of 53.17 seconds. Freshman Ross Davies (Salem, N.H.) finished 10thin the 100 with a time of 11.92 seconds and placed 12th in the 200 with a time of 24.64 seconds. Freshman Thomas St. Cyr (Temple, N.H.) placed third in the 110 hurdles with a time of 16.80 seconds and freshman Tim Moczula (Edison, N.J.) finished fifth with a time of 16.85 seconds.
In the field events, Holy Cross was led by junior Alexandria Culkeen (Beverly, Mass.) with three top five finishes. Culkeen placed second in the shot put with a distance of 12.12 meters, third in the discus with a distance of 33.22 meters and fifth in the hammer throw with a distance of 43.69 meters. Freshman Kylene Carey (East Bridgewater, Mass.) finished second in the long jump with a distance of 4.99 meters, while freshman Mariel Flood (Milton, Mass.) placed third with a distance of 4.94 meters. Senior Kenneth McKenna (Ossining, N.Y.) placed seventh in the hammer throw with a distance of 45.61 meters and ninth in the discus with a distance of 35.82 meters. Junior Alex Martin (Sutton, Mass.) earned a fourth place finish in the long jump with a distance of 6.15 meters.
Holy Cross continues action outdoors when it travels to the Rensselaer Invitational on Saturday, March 26. Competition is scheduled to start at 11:00 a.m.
