BOSTON, Mass. – The Holy Cross men's and women's track and field team wrapped up the 2011 indoor track and field season at the IC4A and ECAC Championships Saturday afternoon. Junior Katelyn Hartnett (Danvers, Mass.) led the team with a seventh place finish in the preliminaries of the 800 with a school record time of 2:11.67. Hartnett had previously broken the school record in the 800 at the Patriot League Championship with a time of 2:12.32. Senior Courtney Burgess (Dracut, Mass.) also competed in the 800, finishing 20th overall with a time of 2:15.82.
Sophomore Kathleen Brekka (Hubbardston, Mass.) placed 16th overall in the 1,000 with a time of 2:59.07 and the 4x800 relay team of senior Cassandra Anderson (Saugus, Mass.), Burgess, junior Kara Brownell (Cherry Valley, Mass.) and Brekka finished 19th with a time of 9:21.82.
Senior Brendan Medeiros (Fall River, Mass.) led the men's team with a 20th place finish in the 1,000 with a time of 2:28.42, while junior Dan Altenau (Eastchester, N.Y.) placed 21st in the 3,000 with a time of 8:24.62. The 4x800 relay team of freshman Sam McGrath (Tyngsboro, Mass.), sophomore Nick Poles (Quincy, Mass.), freshman Nick Petsky (Manorville, N.Y.) and Medeiros finished 14th with a time of 7:41.52.
Holy Cross will take a week off from action before opening the 2011 outdoor season at the Husky Spring Open on March 19.
