Holy Cross Track & Field Opens Competition At New England Championship

BOSTON, Mass. – Juniors Dan Altenau (Eastchester, N.Y.) and Elizabeth Humphries (Siler City, N.C.) led the Holy Cross track and field team with top ten finishes in the 5,000 at the first day of competition at the New England Indoor Championship. Altenau placed 10th overall with a time of 14:56.98, while Humphries finished sixth with a time of 17:45.36.

In the field event finals, junior Alexandria Culkeen (Beverly, Mass.) finished 16th in the weight throw with a distance of 14.97 meters, while senior Alex Johnson (Indianapolis, Ind.) finished 11th in the long jump with a distance of 6.61 meters. Freshman Stephanie Okpoebo (Chelmsford, Mass.) and senior M. Siobhan Straub (Mattituck, N.Y.) qualified for the finals in the 60 meter dash, each with a time of 8.06 seconds. Okpoebo also qualified for the finals in the 200 meter dash with a time of 25.96 seconds. Freshman Andrew Zitnick (Warren, Ohio) qualified for the finals in the 200 meter dash with a time of 22.40 seconds. Senior Courtney Burgess (Dracut, Mass.) qualified for the finals in the 800 with a time of 2:14.23, while senior Brendan Medeiros (Fall River, Mass.), sophomore Kathleen Brekka (Hubbardston, Mass.) and junior Katelyn Hartnett (Danvers, Mass.) qualified for the finals in the 1,000.

Holy Cross continues action at the New England Championship on Saturday, Feb. 26.
