BOSTON, Mass. – The Holy Cross women's track and field team wrapped up the 2011 indoor regular season Friday night at the Valentine Invitational hosted by Boston University in Boston, Mass. The Crusaders will compete at the Patriot League Indoor Championship on Feb. 18-20 hosted by Navy in Annapolis, Md.
At the Valentine Invitational, the 4x400 relay team of freshman Stephanie Okpoebo (Chelmsford, Mass.), sophomore Brittany Gorski (Tewksbury, Mass.), senior Cassandra Anderson (Saugus, Mass) and junior Katelyn Hartnett (Danvers, Mass.) recorded the team's top finish of the evening, placing 10th with a time of 3:56.60. Anderson also marked a top finish in the 500, placing 12th with a time of 1:17.56 and Okpeobo finished 28th in the 200 with a time of 26.02 seconds.
Freshman Catherine Cafaro (Garden City, N.Y.) placed 34th in the 400 with a time of 59.55 seconds, junior Erin Linnehan (Litchfield, N.H.) was 16th in the 60 meter hurdles with a time of 9.26 seconds and junior Sarah Mellea (North Arlington, N.J.) claimed 53rd in the one mile with a time of 5:09.30. Senior Courtney Burgess (Dracut, Mass.) finished 34th in the 800 with a time of 2:17.20 and freshman Emily Hughes (Milton, Mass.) claimed 71st in the 3,000 with a time of 10:38.16.
In the field events, sophomore Kelcey Germain (Auburn, Mass.) placed 11th in the weight throw with a distance of 13.98 meters, while junior Alexandria Culkeen (Beverly, Mass.) led the team in the shot put with a 15th place finish and distance of 11.65 meters. Sophomore Sarah Meinelt (Topsfield, Mass.) finished 14th in the triple jump with a distance of 10.98 meters and freshman Mariel Flood (Milton, Mass.) placed 26th in the long jump with a distance of 4.63 meters.
