Holy Cross Women’s Track & Field Takes Home Team Title

WORCESTER, Mass. – Seven first place finishes and a school record fueled the Holy Cross women's track and field team's victory at the Hart Track Sunday afternoon. The Crusaders took home the top team score with 237.50 points. Maine finished second with 167 points, Hartford in third with 97, Central Connecticut in fourth with 87, American International in fifth with 83 and Stonehill in sixth with 33.50.

Holy Cross finished the meet with two of the top three spots in the discus. Senior Rachel Amaral (Raynham, Mass.) finished first with a distance of 38.78 meters and sophomore Alexandria Culkeen (Beverly, Mass.) finished third with a distance of 35.95 meters. Culkeen finished second in the shot put with a distance of 12.24 meters, freshman Bridget Straub (Mattituck, N.Y.) placed second in the long jump with a distance of 4.88 meters and junior Ashley Buckley (Duxbury, Mass.) took third in the high jump with a height of 1.52 meters. In the javelin, senior Chantal Couture (Taunton, Mass.) set a new school record with a third place finish and distance of 40.38 meters.

The Crusaders won the first track event of the day when senior Claire Luke (Delmar, N.Y.) finished first in the 3,000 meter steeple chase with a time of 11:34.49. Senior Tiffany Reid (Poughkeepsie, N.Y.) took home top finishes in the 100 meter dash (12.37) and 200 meter dash (25.26), sophomore Erin Linnehan (Litchfield, N.H.) won the 100 meter hurdles with a time of 15.39 seconds and senior Olivia Pruszko (Monroe, Conn.) finished first in the 400 hurdles with a time of 1:05.06. Holy Cross claimed the top two spots in the 800 when sophomore Katelyn Hartnett (Danvers, Mass.) and junior Cassandra Anderson (Saugus, Mass.) finished first and second respectively. Sophomore Paige Sutherland (Groveland, Mass.) finished third in the 5,000 with a time of 17:40.80 to close out the individual events for the Crusaders.

Holy Cross will travel to Providence, R.I. on Sunday, April 25 for the Brown Springtime Invitational starting at 1:00 p.m.
