Holy Cross Track & Field Competes At UMass

AMHERST, Mass. – The Holy Cross women’s 4x100 meter relay took first to lead the track and field teams at the UMass Invitational Saturday afternoon in Amherst, Mass. The women finished fourth out of nine teams with 98 points. Host UMass won the Invitational with 167.5 points. On the men’s side, the Crusaders finished 10th out of 11 teams and Albany took home the top spot with 201.5 points.

The women’s 4x100 took first with a time of 49.08 seconds. Senior Tiffany Reid (Poughkeepsie, N.Y.) was a top finisher for the Crusaders in the 100. Reid took first with a time of 12.09 seconds. Teammates Melanie Forte (Milford, N.H.) and M. Siobhan Straub (Mattituck, N.Y.) placed third and fourth with times of 12.62 seconds and 12.73 seconds respectively. Sophomore Erin Linnehan (Litchfield, N.H.) finished third in the100 hurdles with a time of14.88 seconds, Straub took third in the 200 with a time of 26.44 seconds and senior Claire Luke (Delmar, N.Y.) finished third in the 3,000 meter steeple chase with a time of 11:33.70. Senior Sarah Croteau (Westminster, Mass.) finished second in the 5,000 with a time of 18:13.57, freshman Kathleen Brekka (Hubbardston, Mass.) took fourth in the 800 with a time of 2:20.14 and sophomore Paige Sutherland (Groveland, Mass.) placed fifth in the 1,500 with a time of 4:47.46.

The men were led by junior Chris Bergan’s (Shrewsbury, Mass.) fourth place finish in the 5,000. Bergan crossed the line with a time of 15:50.79. Senior Brendan Medeiros (Fall River, Mass.) placed seventh in the 1,500 with a time of 4:03.72. and 18th in the 800 with a time of 1:59.99.

The Crusaders return to Worcester for the Holy Cross Heptathlon/Decathlon on Wednesday-Thursday, April 14-15. Holy Cross will host a home meet on Saturday, April 17 at the Hart Track.
