BOSTON, Mass. - Senior Timothy Richard (Attleboro, Mass.) finished second in the 5,000 to lead the Holy Cross men's and women's track and field teams in the first day of competition at the New England Championship. The men's team is currently in 11th place with eight points, while the women's team is in 19th place with two points.
Richard finished the 5,000 in second place with a time of 14:47.18, while Williams' Edgar Kosgey blew the field away with a first place finish time of 14:40.76. Sophomore Alexandria Culkeen (Beverly, Mass.) placed 15th in the weight throw with a distance of 15.28 meters to lead the women's team.
In preliminary competition, sophomore Erin Linnehan (Litchfield, N.H.) qualified for the finals in the 55 meter hurdles with a time of 8.31 seconds. Senior Olivia Pruszko (Monroe, Conn.) qualified for the finals in the 500 with a time of 1:16.07 and sophomore Katelyn Hartnett (Danvers, Mass.) qualified for the finals in the 1,000 with a time of 2:54.98, just missing the school record time of 2:54.46.
The Crusaders continue competition tomorrow at the New England Championship starting at 10:00 a.m.
