Track & Field Wraps Up Competition At Patriot League Championship
WEST POINT, N.Y. - Senior Tiffany Reid (Poughkeepsie, N.Y.) took first in the 60 and 200 meter dashes and was named athlete of the meet Sunday afternoon the lead the Holy Cross women's track and field team to a fourth place finish at the Patriot League Indoor Track and Field Championship. The men's team was paced by senior Timothy Richard's (Attleboro, Mass.) fifth place performance in the 5,000, finishing in eighth in the team competition. Bucknell won the women's team competition, finishing with 168 points, while Army won the men's team competition with 165 points.
Reid took first in the 60 meter dash with an ECAC Championship qualifying mark and new school record time of 7.65 seconds. Freshman Melanie Forte (Milford, N.H.) finished sixth in the 60 meter dash with a time of 8.13 seconds. Reid followed up her top time in the 60 meter dash with a first place finish in the 200, recording an ECAC Championship qualifying mark of 24.98 seconds.
Also racing on the straight away, sophomore Erin Linnehan (Litchfield, N.H.) tied her school record time of 8.99 seconds in the 60 meter hurdles, finishing in second place. Senior Olivia Pruszko (Monroe, Conn.) followed up her fourth place finish in the pentathlon with a second place finish in the 500, finishing with a time of 1:17.08. Junior Cassandra Anderson (Saugus, Mass.) took fifth in the 500 with a time of 1:20.04.
In the mid-distance events, Holy Cross was led by a second place finish in the 1,000 by sophomore Katelyn Hartnett (Danvers, Mass.) with a time of 2:57.88. In the one mile run, senior Brendan Medeiros (Fall River, Mass.) placed 12th with a time of 4:24.88. In the distance events, sophomore Paige Sutherland (Groveland, Mass.) picked up her second top three finish of the Championships with a second place finish in the 3,000 with a time of 10:00.90. In the men's 3,000, Richard placed ninth with a time of 8:35.91.
In the relays, the women's team was led by a fifth place finish in the distance medley relay. The team of junior Courtney Burgess (Dracut, Mass.), sophomore Sarah Mellea (North Arlington, N.J.), sophomore Kara Brownell (Cherry Valley, Mass.) and freshman Kathleen Brekka (Hubbardston, Mass.) finished with a time of 12:41.02. In the men's distance medley relay, the Crusaders finished in eighth place with a time of 10:36.81. Freshman Kyle Shepard (White Plains, N.Y.), senior Chase Kennedy (Marblehead, Mass.), junior James Fletcher (Woburn, Mass.) and freshman Nicholas Poles (Quincy, Mass.) teamed up for the race. The women's 4x400 relay team of freshman Brittany Gorski (Tewksbury, Mass.), Anderson, Pruszko and Hartnett finished in sixth place with a time of 4:02.36.
In the field events, Holy Cross was paced by sophomore Alexandria Culkeen's (Beverly, Mass.) fourth place finish in the shot put with a distance of 12.62 meters. In the men's shot put competition, senior Nicholas LeBlanc (New Bedford, Mass.) finished in 11th place with a distance of 13.10 meters and junior Kenneth McKenna (Ossining, N.Y.) placed 12th with a distance of 12.42 meters.
Select members of the Holy Cross men's and women's track and field teams will continue competition next weekend, Feb 26-27 at the New England Championship.
