Track & Field Competes In Second Day Of Patriot League Championship

WEST POINT, N.Y. - A second place finish in the 5,000 by sophomore Paige Sutherland (Groveland, Mass.) and a school record time in the 60 meter dash by senior Tiffany Reid (Poughkeepsie, N.Y.) led the Holy Cross men's and women's track and field team at the second day of action at the Patriot League Championship in West Point, N.Y., on Saturday afternoon. The women's team completed the second day of action in fifth place with 18 points, while the men's team is in eighth place with two points. Bucknell is leading both the men's and women's team competition.

Reid hit her stride in the 60 meter dash preliminaries, qualifying for the semifinals with a school record time of 7.71 seconds. Reid then qualified for the finals with a time of 7.76 seconds. Freshman Melanie Forte (Milford, N.H.) also qualified for the finals with a season-best time of 7.98 seconds. Reid also qualified for the finals in the 200 with the fastest time of the day, 25.48 seconds. In the 60 meter hurdles, sophomore Erin Linnehan (Litchfield, N.H.) hit the day's fastest mark, qualifying for the finals and setting a new school record with a time of 8.99 seconds.

In the 5,000 Sutherland recorded Holy Cross' top finish of the day, taking second with a time of 17:29.20. Senior Sarah Croteau (Westminster, Mass.) finished eighth with a time of 18:10.55 and in the men's 5,000, senior Timothy Richard (Attleboro, Mass.) finished fifth with a time of 14:55.13. Sophomore Dan Altenau (Eastchester, N.Y.) finished 11th in the 5,000 with a season-best time of 15:16.36 and senior Kyle Rougeot (Torrington, Conn.) placed 14th with a time of 15:27.58.

The women's 4x800 relay, ran by sophomore Katelyn Hartnett (Danvers, Mass.), senior Maureen Meagher (Allentown, Pa.), sophomore Sarah Mellea (North Arlington, N.J.) and junior Courtney Burgess (Dracut, Mass.) finished third with a time of 9:14.73. In the field events, senior Rachel Amaral (Raynham, Mass.) took ninth in the weight throw with a distance of 14.78 meters.

The Holy Cross men's and women's track and field team concludes Patriot League action tomorrow in West Point starting at 10:00 a.m.
