Women’s Track And Field Falls At Maine, 102-73

ORONO, Maine - The Holy Cross women's track and field team took first place in five events, but it wasn't enough to lead them past Maine Saturday at the UMaine Field House in Orono, Maine. The Crusaders fell to the Black Bears, 102-73.

Holy Cross showed its strength in the throwing events as it took the top two spots in the weight throw and shot put. Senior Rachel Amaral (Raynham, Mass.) finished first in the weight throw with a distance of 15.25 meters and sophomore Alexandria Culkeen (Beverly, Mass.)  finished second with a distance of 14.97 meters. Culkeen then led the Crusaders in the shot put with a first place finish with a distance of 11.96 meters, while Amaral took second with distance of 11.60 meters.

On the track, the Crusaders were led by top finishes in the distance and mid-distance events. Senior Olivia Pruszko (Monroe, Conn.) place first in the 500 with a time of 1:20.89, sophomore Katelyn Hartnett (Danvers, Mass.) finished first in the 800 with a time of 2:17.15 and sophomore Paige Sutherland (Groveland, Mass.) took first in the 3,000 with a time of 10:01.13.

The Crusaders will continue indoor action next week at the Valentine Invitational hosted by Boston University on Feb. 12. Racing is set to start at 1:00 p.m.
