Fairfield, Conn. - The Holy Cross women's tennis team competed in the New England Championship this weekend, hosted by Fairfield University. The women competed strong, resulting in one Crusader taking forth place in the third flight finals and one playing in the championship round for her flight. Ivette Konopka would start out her day, in the flight three singles against Elise Clark where she would win, 6-0, 6-1. She would then take on Michaela Cerrone from Fairfield to try and play in the championships match but would come up short losing 6-3, 6-4. Konopka would take forth place for the day after a loss to Kate Lyons of Providence, 6-4, 6-3.
Kathryn Wilkie played in the sixth flight singles this weekend, where she would defeat both of her opponents to get a chance to compete for the first place championship title. In her first match she would beat Mandy Finkeistein of Sacred Heart in a very close match, 6-1, 4-6, 6-4. Wilkie would also be victorious in her match against Gretchen Amberg of Fairfield 7-5, 6-3. For the championship round Wilkie would come up short to Kristen Liu of Rhode Island, 6-2, 6-0, ending her day with a second place finish.
In doubles play the Crusaders would take three seventh place finishes to finish the weekend. The team placed sixth overall with a total of 28 points.
