Holy Cross Women's Tennis Defeats Hartford, 6-1

WORCESTER, Mass. - The Holy Cross women's tennis team defeated Hartford, 6-1, on Tuesday afternoon at the Holy Cross Tennis Courts. With the win, the Crusaders improve to 1-2, while the Hawks fall to 0-4.

The Crusaders won the doubles point as all three doubles teams won. Junior Kristen Meahl (Falmouth, Maine) and freshman Emma Rudnik (Lake Bluff, Ill.) defeated Kasey Michels and Maggie Sabatino, 8-2, in the No. 1 doubles match, while freshmen Carolyn Chandley (Worcester, Mass.) and Emily Marr (Holden, Mass.) were victorious over Kara Pease and Nikki Haynal, 8-3, in the No. 2 doubles match. Chandley and Marr are now 4-2 on the season as a team. In the No. 3 doubles match, senior Paige Brown (Huntington, N.Y.) and junior Kathryn Wilkie (Oak Brook, Ill.) defeated Jessica Ruggles and Katie Greenberg, 8-1.

In the No. 1 singles match, Meahl defeated Michels, 6-1, 6-3, to improve to 4-2 on the year. Marr won the No. 3 singles match over Sabatino, 6-1, 6-1, to also improve to 4-2 on the season. Junior Hailee Lange (Miami, Fla.) defeated Haynal in the No. 4 singles match, 6-3, 6-0, while junior Ivette Konopka (Shelton, Conn.) won the No. 5 singles match, 6-0, 6-0, and is now 3-1 on the season. Chandley earned her fifth singles win of the year to improve to 5-1, when she defeated Greenberg in the No. 6 singles match, 6-0, 6-1.

The Crusaders return to action on Wednesday, Oct. 8, when they play Stonehill in Easton, Mass., at 3:30 p.m.
