Women's Tennis Cruises Past Springfield, 7-0

Worcester, Mass. - Getting contributions from eight players, the Holy Cross women's tennis team (3-3) handled Springfield College 7-0 on Wednesday afternoon.

Picking up the first singles match victory of her career was Melanie Bunke (Glastonbury, Conn.). In three sets, Meredith Bacon (Hanover, N.H.) got a victory in her first singles of the year.

Carrie Simmons (Raynham, Mass.), Kerry Trimmer (Spring Lake, N.J.), Amy Garrity (Poughkeepsie, N.Y.) and Katie Guarino (Reading, Mass.) all cruised in straights sets as the Crusader women swept the rest of the singles competition.

In doubles, Holy Cross gained a seventh point by taking all three matches. Diana Mahoney (Smithtown, N.Y.) paired up with Bacon for the victory in her first match of the year. Katie Irwin (Franklin Lakes, N.J.) also paired with Garrity for a win.

The Crusader women will play next at Rhode Island on Tuesday, Oct. 11 at 3:00 p.m.
