Worcester, Mass. - The Holy Cross women's tennis team won all three doubles matches Tuesday afternoon to defeat Hartford 5-2 in Worcester, Mass. Junior Meg Moran (Concord, N.H.) and senior Meredith Bacon (Hanover, N.H.) started the afternoon off with an 8-4 win over Hartford's Kasey Michels and Stephanie Schoebel. Bacon would have the opportunity to beat Michels twice on the day, facing her on the singles court. Bacon would once again get the victory over her opponent, taking the match in three close sets: 6-3, 5-7, 10-8.
Junior Amy Garrity (Poughkeepsie, N.Y.) and freshman Ivette Konopka (Shelton, Conn.) beat Hawks Raquel Casino and Liz Wiener 8-4. On the singles court, Garrity would defeat Michelle Tafur without getting her serve broken, winning 6-0, 6-0. Konopka would not see another victory on the day, losing to Schoebel 6-4, 6-2.
Freshman Kristen Meahl (Falmouth, ME) took on Wiener in singles action and would win convincingly 6-2, 6-0. Meahl and sophomore Paige Brown (Huntington, N.Y.) would win their singles match by default. Freshman Meg Manahan would win her singles match by default as well. Moran would suffer the other Holy Cross loss on the day, losing her singles match to Casino, 6-0, 6-1
Holy Cross women's tennis improves to 2-0 on the season while Harford drops to 0-1. The Crusader women are back on the courts Sunday, October 1 at home against Providence at 12 PM.
