Women's Tennis Plays Well At Wheaton Invitational

NORTON, Mass. - The Holy Cross women's tennis team won both doubles competitions and fell in the second singles final at the Wheaton Invitational on Sunday aftenoon. Along with Wheaton and Holy Cross, teams from Salve Regina and Roger Williams took part in the event.
Garrity and Trimmer later went on to win in the finals over Marissa Giamo and Karla Cynewski of Salve Regina by a score of 8-0 in a dominant effort.
Junior Meredith Bacon (Hanover, N.H.) and sophomore Meg Moran (Concord, N.H.) were victorious 8-2 in the second doubles bracket as they knocked off Wheaton's Jess Otto and Orianna Federico in the semifinals. The duo of Bacon and Moran went on to defeat Alicia Willis and Katie Wright of Salve Regina in the championship match 8-0.
In second the second singles bracket, sophomore Katie Guarino (Reading, Mass.) won her first round match against Jess Motters of Roger Williams in three sets. Guarino would eventually fall in the finals to Salve Regina's Michelle Kennedy by a score of 4-6, 5-7.
Senior Carrie Simmons (Raynham, Mass.) was unable to play in the first singles competition due to an injury.
The Holy Cross women's tennis team will be back on the courts on Tuesday, April 4 when they travel to Storrs, Conn. to take on Connecticut at 3:15 p.m.
