Middlebury, Conn. - The Holy Cross women's tennis team lost to Sacred Heart, 6-1 on Saturday afternoon at the Middlebury Racquet Club in Middlebury, Conn. Freshman Kristen Meahl (Falmouth, Maine) was victorious in her No. 4 singles match over a competitor from Sacred Heart. Meahl would lose the first set, 6-3, but would rally to take the next set, 7-5. Meahl would prevail in the tie-breaker, 10-4, earning the only singles win for the Crusaders on the day.
A pair of freshman would team up to win the No. 2 doubles match, Ivette Konopka (Shelton, Conn.) and Meahl would outlast a duo from Sacred Heart, 8-7 (9). The Pioneers would get the best of the Crusaders, taking two of the three doubles matches.
Senior Meredith Bacon (Hanover, N.H.) forced a tie-break in her No. 3 singles match. Bacon took the first set from her Pioneer counterpart, 6-7 (5) but would then go on to lose the second set, 6-3. In the tie-break, the Pioneer would win the match by beating Bacon, 6-2.
The Holy Cross women's tennis team drops to 0-2 on the spring season as Sacred Heart improves to 2-0 in 2007.
The Crusaders return to action Saturday, March 24, taking on Army in West Point, N.Y. Matches are set to begin at 9:00 am.
