Women’s Tennis Falls To Merrimack, 6-3

NORTH ANDOVER, Mass. – Holy Cross women's tennis sophomore Abby Henry (Wellesley, Mass.) won both her singles and doubles matches, as the Crusaders fell to Merrimack, 6-3, on Tuesday, Sept. 17 at North Andover High School. With the loss, Holy Cross evens its record to 2-2 on the season, while the Warriors begin the 2013-2014 campaign at 1-0.

Henry, playing in her first matches of the season, claimed the straight set victory in No. 6 singles over Alyx Barnes, 6-0, 6-0. She was also paired up with freshman Marielle Newell (St. Louis, Mo.), as the duo dispatched of Barnes and Rachel Muller in No. 3 doubles, 8-1. Holy Cross sophomore Cassy Deng (Eden Prairie, Minn.) won the third point for the Crusaders in No. 5 singles with a 6-1, 6-2 victory over Muller.

Holy Cross senior Molly Montgomery (Winnetka, Ill.) was defeated in No. 3 singles, 6-3, 6-1, while junior Taylor Stathis (Rockaway Beach, N.Y.) lost her No. 2 singles match by the same score.

The Crusaders return to action on Wednesday, Sept. 25, when they will make the short trip to Assumption to take on the Greyhounds at 3:30 p.m.
