Women's Tennis Defeated By Rhode Island, 6-1

KINGSTON, R.I. – The Holy Cross women's tennis team was defeated by Rhode Island, 6-1, at the URI Tennis Complex on Tuesday afternoon. With the win, the Rams improve to 5-11 overall, while the Crusaders fall to 4-7 on the season.

Holy Cross freshman Cassy Deng (Eden Prairie, Minn.) claimed the only Crusaders point as she won her No. 6 singles match, 1-6, 6-3, (10-6) in a tiebreaking third set. Crusaders freshman Abby Henry (Wellesley, Mass.) lost her No. 4 singles match, 6-3, 6-4, while Holy Cross sophomore No. 1 singles player Taylor Stathis (Rockaway Beach, N.Y.) was defeated, 6-1, 6-2.

The Crusaders did not claim any wins in the doubles matches as the No. 3 team of senior captain Jessica DeSimone (Lincoln, R.I.) and junior Katie McKenna (Longmeadow, Mass.) lost their tilt, 8-1.

Holy Cross will return to action on Saturday, April 13, when it will host Sacred Heart in its final home match of the 2012-2013 season. The match will begin at 1:00 p.m. at the Sinnott Family Tennis Facility.
