Women's Tennis Defeats Simmons, 5-2

WORCESTER, Mass. – Holy Cross freshman Jaclyn Carroll (Tewksbury, Mass.) won both her singles and doubles matches to help lead the Crusaders to a 5-2 triumph over Simmons in non-conference women's tennis action on Monday afternoon at the Sinnott Family Tennis Facility. With the win, Holy Cross improves to 4-6 overall, while the Sharks fall to 13-4 on the season.

Carroll won her No. 2 singles match over Sabrina Salmela, 6-1, 6-4, and teamed up with sophomore Taylor Stathis (Rockaway Beach, N.Y.) in No. 1 doubles as the pair defeated Margaret Teague and Meghan Cokely, 8-6. Holy Cross junior Maya Welch (Rye, N.Y.) won her No. 3 singles match over Cokely, 7-5, 6-1, as Crusaders No. 4 singles player, freshman Abby Henry (Wellesley, Mass.), defeated  Rachael Downey, 6-3, 6-3. Henry improves her singles record to 8-4, which ranks first on the team.

Holy Cross freshmen Addie Devine (Cumberland Foreside, Maine) and Cassy Deng (Eden Prairie, Minn.) each won their respective matches, 6-1, 7-5 and 6-2, 6-2.

The Crusaders return to action on Tuesday, April 9, as they travel to Kingston, R.I. to take on Rhode Island at 3:00 p.m.
