Holy Cross Defeats Assumption 6-1

WORCESTER, Mass. - Freshman Jackie Carroll (Tewksbury, Mass.) posted victories at both No. 1 singles and No. 1 doubles, to lead the Holy Cross women's tennis team to a 6-1 win over Assumption at the Holy Cross Tennis Courts. The Crusaders open the season at 1-0, while the Greyhounds fall to 0-2.

Carroll defeated Erica Micciche 6-0, 6-1 in singles action, then teamed with junior Maya Welch (Rye, N.Y.) in doubles to earn an 8-6 victory over Marie Black and Cassandra Waung. Welch also won her match at No. 2 singles, downing Black 7-6 (7-5), 3-6, 10-8. Other Holy Cross players to win in both singles and doubles action were freshman Abby Henry (Wellesley, Mass.), freshman Addie Devine (Portland, Maine) and freshman Cassy Deng (Eden Prairie, Minn.)

The Crusaders return to action on Saturday, Sept. 15, when they take part in the Salve Regina Doubles Invitational at the International Tennis Hall of Fame in Newport, R.I.
