NORTON, Mass. - The Holy Cross women's tennis team won three of the six singles matches and the doubles point to defeat Wheaton, 5-4, at the Clark Tennis Courts. With the decision, the Crusaders register a record of 10-2 overall while the Lyons go to 8-5. Senior Carolyn Chandley (Worcester, Mass.) notched two wins on the afternoon, tallying a victory at No. 4 singles and a win with fellow senior Emily Marr (Jefferson, Mass.) in No. 2 doubles.
Chandley and Marr won in extra games to earn the point at No. 2 doubles, winning by a final of 9-7. Senior Emma Rudnik (Lake Bluff, Ill.) and junior Jessica DeSimone (Lincoln, R.I.) also teamed up for the squad's second doubles point, securing a 8-2 victory. Rudnik also cruised in singles play, sweeping her opponent at the No. 6 spot, 6-0, 6-0.
Chandley won the No. 4 singles match in extra sets, finishing ahead 3-6, 6-2, 10-4. Sophomore Maya Welch (Rye, N.Y.) finished off the day's wins as she tallied a 7-5, 6-4 victory at No. 5 singles. With the win, the Crusaders have now won two in a row and nine of their last 10 matches.
Holy Cross returns to action on Thursday, April 12 when it travels to play Bryant. Match time is set for 3:30 p.m. at the Bryant Tennis Complex in Smithfield, R.I.
