WORCESTER, Mass. - Holy Cross women's tennis players, junior Emily Marr (Jefferson, Mass.) and sophomore Jessica DeSimone (Lincoln, R.I) have been selected to the inaugural Academic All-Patriot League team, as voted on by league sports information directors. To be eligible for the Academic All-Patriot League team, a student-athlete must have at least a 3.20 cumulative grade point average and be a starter or key player in his/her sport. Holy Cross led all schools with two members on this year's team.
Marr led the team with a 3.58 GPA this past season and is a double-major in Sociology and Political Science. She has been named to the Patriot League Academic Honor Roll twice and also had the best record in singles play on the team this season, recording a total of six wins and 13 losses overall. She went 5-11 in dual match play and 1-2 in tournament outings. Four of her wins came in the No. 3 singles spot while she went 1-5 as the team's No. 2 singles player. She now has a career record of 29-29.
DeSimone holds a 3.55 GPA and is majoring in Biology. She went 1-6 overall in singles play and 6-8 in doubles play this season, including a 3-2 record in the No. 3 doubles flight with junior Emma Rudnik (Lake Bluff, Ill.). She was also named to the 2010 Patriot League Academic Honor Roll.
The Academic All-Patriot League team has been added for all sports beginning in the 2010-2011 season to honor additional student-athletes who excel both on and off the field. The women's tennis Academic All-Patriot League team has five student-athletes to equal the size of the sport's All-Patriot League first team.
