Crusaders Set For Patriot League Championship This Weekend

- The Holy Cross women's tennis team wraps up the season with one final non-conference match against Wesleyan on Wednesday, April 20 before playing in the 2011 Patriot League Championship hosted by Navy this weekend. Wednesday's match, held in Middletown, Conn., will start at 3:30 p.m. on the John Wood Memorial Tennis Courts. The weekend's championship will be played at the Brigade Sport Complex in Annapolis, Md. Seeding and times will be determined Thursday evening.
- Wesleyan is on a three-game win streak heading into Wednesday's match and owns a 9-5 overall record, including five wins and four losses this spring. The squad last won against Hamilton and hosts Holy Cross as their first Division I opponent on the season. The Crusaders have not played Wesleyan in recent history and are now 10-3 against Division III squads in their last 13 meetings.
- Holy Cross was seeded as the No. 6 seed in the 2010 Patriot League Championship and played against this year's host, Navy. The championship will be conducted as a full-field event with team seeding based on regular-season standings and the top seed receiving a quarterfinal bye. The champion will earn the Patriot League's automatic bid to the NCAA Tournament.
- Junior captain Carolyn Chandley (Worcester, Mass.) won two out of her three singles matches last week, winning against Clark and Springfield before falling at Central Connecticut. She was the deciding point in the match against Clark, going three sets to boost her team to a 4-3 win. She now has three wins and six losses this spring.
