WORCESTER, Mass. – Junior Carolyn Chandley (Worcester, Mass.) took her No. 2 singles match to three sets but came out with a crucial win, leading the Holy Cross women's tennis team to a 4-3 win against Division III Clark at the Holy Cross Tennis Courts. With the final tally, the Crusaders improve to a record of 2-11 on the season while the Cougars fall to a record of 5-9.
Holy Cross swept all three doubles matches for the first time this season; including a tie-breaking 8-7 (7-5) win in the No. 1 doubles match by freshmen Molly Montgomery (Winnetka, Ill.) and Maya Welch (Rye, N.Y.). The Crusaders followed with three wins in singles play, including the decisive three set win by Chandley. Junior Emily Marr (Jefferson, Mass.) won easily in straight sets, 6-1, 6-1, while Welch also won her No. 4 match by the same scores. Clark won three singles matches, but could not clinch the doubles point as Holy Cross finished ahead, 4-3.
The Crusaders return to action on Saturday, April 16, traveling to play Connecticut College. Matches are set to begin at 12:00 p.m. on the South Tennis Courts in New London, Conn.
