Women's Tennis Falls Short At Hartford, 4-3

HARTFORD, Conn. – The Holy Cross women's tennis team came up just short against Hartford, winning three singles matches but losing the doubles point to drop a 4-3 decision at the Hartford Tennis Courts. With the final tally, the Crusaders go to a record of 0-11 on the season while the Hawks register a record of 5-9.

Hartford jumped out with an 8-1 win in the No. 1 doubles spot before the No. 3 tandem of sophomore Jessica DeSimone (Lincoln, R.I.) and junior Emma Rudnik (Lake Bluff, Ill.) earned a 8-3 victory. The No. 2 doubles match had to go to a tie breaker as the Hawks eventually won out, 9-8 (7-5).

Three Crusaders earned victories in singles competition with junior Emily Marr (Jefferson, Mass.) tallying her second straight victory in the No. 3 match, 6-3, 6-2. Junior Carolyn Chandley (Worcester, Mass.) won her first match of the spring in the No. 2 spot while freshman Mary McAuliffe (Peru, N.Y.) also recorded her first win in the No. 5 spot. The Hawks won the No. 1, No. 4 and No, 6 matches, however, to take the final 4-3 edge.

The Crusaders travel to Endicott next on Wednesday, April 13. Matches are set to begin at 3:30 p.m. at the South Tennis Courts in Beverly, Mass.
