Crusaders Return To Action For Two Matches This Week

  • The Holy Cross women's tennis team, whose match was postponed against Clark due to snow last week, returns to action for two matches this week. The Crusaders open up with a match against Bryant on Wednesday, April 6 at 3:30 p.m. Matches will be held on the Holy Cross Tennis Courts in Worcester. The squad then goes to Hartford on Thursday, April 7, as it was postponed from the original April 5 date due to rain. Matches begin at 3:30 p.n. at the Hartford Tennis Courts.
  • Bryant is 7-8 on the season after winning 7-0 against Albany on April 2. The Bulldogs opened the spring season with four straight defeats and are 1-2 in their last three matches, including losses to Hofstra and Quinnipiac. Holy Cross lost to the Bulldogs, 4-3 in the last meeting, held on April 13, 2010 and won the 2008 meeting, 5-2.
  • Hartford is fresh off a 7-0 loss against Sacred Heart and stands at 4-8 on the season. The Hawks are 1-2 in their last three meetings, also beating St. Francis (Pa.) and losing to NJIT. The squad is 1-4 at home this season. The Crusaders lost to the Hawks, 4-3, over the fall season. Freshmen Molly Montgomery (Winnetka, Ill.) and Maya Welch (Rye, N.Y.) won their No. 1 and No. 3 singles matches while the team also picked up the doubles point. The Crusaders carried a six-game win streak over the Hawks into the fall contest and are now 6-1 in the last seven contests.
  • Holy Cross is looking for its first win of the season this week. Junior Emily Marr (Jefferson, Mass.) leads the team with three wins in singles play, all coming in the fall. She picked up two wins in dual matches and one match in tournament competition.
