Overall Record: 2-3 (0-0 PL); Last Week: 0-0
Scoreboard: No team scores, New England Championship, 10/17

  • Due to inclement weather on Sunday, Oct. 18, the women's tennis team's final event, the New England Championship, was shortened to a one-day event, held Saturday, Oct. 17. The team finishes with a 2-3 record in fall dual-match play, earning wins against Hartford and Merrimack and dropping matches against Providence, Siena and Massachusetts.
  • Two members of the senior class ended their seasons on high notes, as Ivette Konopka (Shelton, Conn.) and Kathryn Wilkie (Oak Bluff, Ill.) each topped two competitors in the No. 5 and No. 6 singles flights respectively to make it to the championship rounds of the New England Women's Tennis Championship. Because the event was called after the first day, neither player was able to compete for the championship crown. Wilkie rounds out the fall with the best team record, winning five singles matches and falling in two. Konopka follows with the team's second-best record of 3-2.
  • Konopka and Wilkie also had success in their respective doubles matches. The tandem of Konopka and sophomore Emily Marr (Jefferson, Mass.) end with the team's second-best doubles record at 4-3. They finished on a high note as well, earning a win against Fairfield's Gretchen Amberg and Michelle Cerrone 8-0 in the first round on the No. 2 doubles flight Saturday. Wilkie and sophomore Emma Rudnik (Lake Bluff, Ill.) also won their first round of the flight No. 3 doubles against Sacred Heart's Delaney Downing and Ashley Amalfe. They finish the fall season with a team-high 4-3 record.
  • The team looks forward to a break before returning to practice and beginning preparations for the 2009-2010 spring season. The schedule has not yet been announced. In spring action last year, the Crusaders went 7-6.
