Crusaders Prepare For Massachusetts And The Salve Regina Doubles Tournament

  • The Holy Cross women's tennis team will compete in its fourth dual-meet against Massachusetts at home on Thursday, Oct. 1. Matches are set to begin at 4:00 p.m. at the Holy Cross Tennis Courts in Worcester, Mass. This is the first time the Minutewomen have competed on the new tennis courts as the teams last met in the spring of 2008 when Massachusetts blanked the Crusaders 7-0.
  • On Sunday, the team will compete in the rescheduled Salve Regina Doubles Invitational held at the Tennis Hall of Fame in Newport, R.I. The tournament is set to begin at 1:00 p.m. Last year's invitational was cancelled due to weather.
  • Senior Kathryn Wilkie (Oak Brook, Ill.) and sophomore Emily Marr (Jefferson, Mass.) continue to lead the team with 2-1 records in singles play this season. They each picked up a win against Hartford and now hold a two-match win streak. Last season, Marr recorded a team-high 14 wins in singles play. Wilkie, who finished the 2008-2009 season with a 9-2 record, led the team with a career-best .818 singles winning percentage.
  • Senior Kristen Meahl (Falmouth, Maine) and sophomores Carolyn Chandley (Worcester, Mass.) and Lauren Evans (Visalia, Calif.) earned their first singles victories of the season against Hartford. Evans' single-set victory at No. 6 singles over Hartford's Margaret Potkay (8-3) was the first win of her Holy Cross career.
