Holy Cross Women's Tennis Tops Hartford, 5-2
Conn. - The Holy Cross women's tennis team won five of six
singles matches to defeat Hartford, 5-2, in West Hartford, Conn.
With the victory, the Crusaders snap their two-match losing streak
and improve to 1-2 on the season. The Hawks drop to 0-3.
Senior Kristen Meahl (Falmouth, Maine), sophomore Carolyn Chandley (Worcester, Mass.) and sophomore Lauren Evans (Visalia, Calif.) earned their first singles victories of the season. Meahl defeated Livia Blasque at No. 1 singles, 7-6 (9-7), 6-1, while Chandley upended Haley Gileau at No. 2 singles, 6-4, 6-0. Evans took the win at No. 6 singles over Margaret Potkay, 8-3.
Sophomore Emily Marr (Jefferson, Mass.) upped her singles record this season to 2-1 by defeating Amanda Epstein, 6-1, 6-1, at No. 3 singles. Senior Kathryn Wilkie (Oak Brook, Ill.) also scored a win at No. 5 singles over Kaitlin Lennon, 6-1, 6-3.
Hartford won all three doubles matches to pick up a point. The Hawks were also led by Nicole Haynal at No. 4 singles. She topped senior Hailee Lange (Miami, Fla.), 6-2, 6-1, at No. 4 singles.
Holy Cross is next in action Thursday, Oct. 1 when they host Massachusetts at the Holy Cross Tennis Courts. The match is scheduled to begin at 4:00 p.m.
