Holy Cross Women's Tennis Set For Matches With Providence and Siena

Sunday, Sept. 20 at Siena, Loudonville, N.Y., 11:00 a.m.

  • Two dual-matches are slated for the women's first fall action this week. On Wednesday, Sept, 17, the Crusaders will host the Providence Friars in the initial home match of the season at the Holy Cross Tennis Courts. Matches are set to begin at 3:30 p.m. The teams met in the 2009 spring season as the Crusaders came away with a 4-3 victory in the fall, Holy Cross fell to Providence 4-3. Senior Kristen Meahl (Falmouth, Maine), sophomore Emily Marr (Holden, Mass.), senior Hailee Lange (Miami, Fla.) and senior Kathryn Wilkie (Oak Brook, Ill.) each won singles matches.
  • On Sunday, Sept. 20 the team will join the men in a dual-meet with Siena. Matches are set to begin at 11:00 a.m. at the Central Park tennis courts in Schenectady, N.Y. The match is the first meeting between the teams since 2007 when the Crusaders topped the Saints 5-2.
  • With the final roster set, this year's 2009-2010 tennis squad boasts a split between seven sophomores, four seniors and two freshmen. Leading Holy Cross will be senior team captain Meahl, who ranks as the squad's No. 1 singles player. Last year, Meahl became only the second Holy Cross women's tennis player to ever earn All-Patriot League honors as she made the second team after finishing the season with a 14-12 overall record.
  • The Salve Regina Doubles Invitational, originally slated for Saturday, Sept. 12 has been postponed until Sunday, Oct. 4
