Worcester, Mass. - Freshman diver Rachael Martinez (Chelmsford, Mass.) was named Female Diver of the Week by the Patriot League Tuesday morning. Martinez swept the diving events against Providence last Tuesday, giving her fourth and fifth event wins on the season. Martinez took the 1M diving competition with 165.38 points, winning by a margin of 21.3 points over her closest competitor. In the 3M competition, Martinez won the event by nearly 40 points over a diver from Providence, finishing her six dives with 219.90 points.
Martinez won the first Crusader diving event of the season against Bucknell on October 28. She edged out a diver from Bucknell to win the 1M event by 4.5 points, finishing with a total of 215.62 points over six dives. Against Siena on November 1, Martinez got her first double win of the season, taking both of the 3M and 1M competitions from the Saints.
Martinez and the Holy Cross men's and women's swimming and diving teams will return to competition on December 1, traveling to Kingston R.I. for the Rhode Island Invitational. The two day meet is set to start at 5:00 pm on Friday and 10:00 am on Saturday December 2.
