Holy Cross Prepares For Worcester City Championships

Holy Cross is preparing to host the Worcester City Championships on Friday-Saturday, Jan. 23-24.
Last season, Holy Cross claimed its seventh straight Worcester City Championship, scoring 633 points and defeating Clark, Worcester Polytechnic Institute (WPI) and Assumption.
At the 2008 Worcester City Championships, junior Rachael Martinez (Holy Cross) was name diver of the meet for her first place finish on the three meter board and new meet record of 240.21 points and her second place finish on the one meter board with a score of 196.42. Junior Maggie Gousman (Fanwood, N.J.) was named swimmer of the meet for her meet record-breaking performance in the 200 breaststroke with a time of 2:32.10. Junior Alisha Carrazza (Boonton Township, N.J.) also set a new meet record in the 100 free with a time of 56.35.
Against Central Connecticut and Vermont on Sunday, Jan. 11, Martinez took second in the one meter and three meter diving competition, while Gousman finished fourth in the 100 breast with a time of 1:10.97.
