Kingston, R.I. - The Holy Cross men's and women's swimming and diving teams compete over the weekend in the two-day Harold Anderson Invitational, hosted by the University of Rhode Island.
The Crusader men finished in fourth place with a scored of 283. The men's winner was University of Rhode Island (597 points). In the women's invitational, Holy Cross took fifth place with 324.50 points as the University of Maine won the event with 754 points.
For the men, junior Brian Jackson (Phoenixville, Pa.) was the highest individual finisher over the weekend. Jackson took second place in the 200-yard butterfly with a time of 2:08.84, less than one second off the pace.
Sophomore Christopher Smith (West Haven, Conn.) also swam well, finishing third overall in the 500-yard freestyle with a time of 5:08.39. Also with a solid finish was freshman Kevein Kitson (Chappaqua, N.Y.), who placed fifth in the 200-yard fresstyle (1:52.38).
The men's 200-yard freestyle relay team posted a fourth place finish with a time of 1:32.48.
Ferris finished second in the 100-yard backstroke (1:00.96) and also second in the 200-yard backstroke (2:13.32). The sophomore Doherty took fourth place in the 100-yard butterfly with a time of 1:00.94. She also finished fifth in the 200-yard freestyle event in 2:01.49.
The highest finished for the Crusader relay teams was in the 200-yard freestyle team who took fourth place with a time of 1:42.58.
Both the Holy Cross men's and women's swimming and diving teams will not compete again until after the holiday break. The Crusader men compete again on Saturday, Jan. 14 at home against Boston University at 1:00 p.m. The Crusader women will have a home meet on Sunday, Jan. 15 against Central Connecticut State and Vermont at 1:00 p.m.
