Worcester, Mass. - The Holy Cross men's and women's swimming and diving teams could not overcome two strong Maine teams as they lost their last home meet before the holiday break. The Crusader men fell 183.5-107.5 as the women's team lost 192-109.
For the women, sophomore Andrea Doherty (Needham, Mass.) continued her strong season winning the 100 and 200-yard butterfly events in 1:00.53 and 2:13.77, respectively. Senior captain Emily Ferris (Rockville Center, N.Y.) was also victorious in the 100-yard backstroke with a time of 1:02.10. The women's 200-yard freestyle relay team took first in the final race of the meet with a time of 1:46.02.
The Crusader men's 200-yard freestyle relay team also won their event in a time of 1:32.06. Individually, the men were lead by freshman Robert Acker (Ames, Iowa), who won the 100-yard backstroke in 1:00.97. Also leading the men was sophomore Christopher Smith's (West Haven, Conn.) first place finish in the 500-yard freestyle (5:12.71).
Both swimming and diving teams will finish the pre-holiday break portion of their season on Friday, Dec. 2 and Saturday, Dec. 3 at the Rhode Island Invitational. The event will take place in Kingston, R.I. The Friday meet begins at 5:00 p.m.
