Boston, Mass. - The Holy Cross men's and women's swimming and diving teams competed over the weekend at the three day Terrier Invitational hosted by Boston University. The Crusader women's team finished eighth with 364 points, while the men's team finished fourth with 529 points. Northeastern won the women's meet with 705 points and UMass won the men's meet with 1042 points.
Freshman Maggie Gousman (Fanwood, N.J.) was the highest placing Crusader on the weekend, taking third in the 100 yard breaststroke. Her time of 1:08.71 earned 16 points for Holy Cross. Gousman also finished seventh in the 200 yard freestyle with a time of 2:30.71.
The Crusader men's team faired better in the relay events, taking seventh place in three events. In the 200 yard freestyle relay, sophomore Matt Grogan (Allenwood, N.J.), sophomore James McCullough (Orefield, Pa.), sophomore Ian MacLaren (Cortez, Colo.) and freshman Aaron Brosnan (Westford, Mass.) finished in 1:33.63 In the 400 yard medley relay, the team of Brosnan, freshman Brian Livingston (Auburn, Wa.), senior Brian Jackson (Phoenixville, Pa.) and Grogan took seventh with a time of 5:52.21. In the 800 yard freestyle relay, Grogan, MacLaren, McCullough and Brosnan finished in 1:53.14 while sophomore Rob Acker (Ames, Iowa), Livingston, Jackson and sophomore David Drummond (Swampscott, Mass.) finished in 1:59.39 and in eighth place.
The women's 200 yard freestyle relay team of junior Andrea Doherty (Neeham, Mass,) junior Erica Archer (Schenectady, N.Y.), Gousman and freshman Alisha Carrazza (Boonton Township, N.J.) took ninth with a time of 1:41.20.
Both Holy Cross teams will be back in action Friday, December 1 in the Rhode Island Invitational in Kingston, R.I. The two day event is scheduled to start at 5:00 pm on Friday and 10:00 am on Saturday.
