Worcester, Mass. - The Holy Cross men's and women's swimming and diving teams faced tough Bucknell squads Saturday afternoon in the Hart Center Pool in Worcester, Mass. The Bison would sweep the meet, taking both the men's and women's competitions. The Holy Cross women's team would get a total of 96 points to Bucknell's 139. On the men's side, the Crusaders totaled 81 points to Bucknell's 155.
The Crusaders highlights of the day came in the women's competitions. Junior captain Andrea Doherty (Needham, Mass.) won the 200-yard butterfly with a time of 2:13.43, edging out a swimmer from Bucknell by only .41 of a second. Freshman Maggie Gousman (Fanwood, N.J.) made an impact in her first competition at the Hart Center by winning the 200-yard backstroke. Her time of 2:31.60 was good enough to beat her closest competition by nearly two seconds. Diver Rachael Martinez (Chelmsford, Mass.) won the 1M diving event for the Crusader's. Her final score of 215.62 narrowly edged out her competition from the Bison, Rebecca Bersani, who ended the day with 211.12.
In the men's competition, freshman Aaron Brosnan (Westford, Mass.) took second in the 200 yard freestyle with a time of 1:51.84. Bucknell's John Peterson was the only swimmer to break the 1:50 mark, winning the event in 1:48.93.
The Holy Cross women's swimming and diving team will take on Seina on Wednesday, November 1 in Loudonville, N.Y. The meet is set to start at 7:00PM. The men and women will both compete again on Wednesday, November 8 at Army. That meet is scheduled to start at 6:00PM.
