Holy Cross Swimming & Diving Teams Fall To Springfield
SPRINGFIELD, Mass. - Junior Maggie Gousman (Fanwood, N.J.) placed first in two events, but it wasn't enough as the Holy Cross men's and women's swimming and diving teams fell to Springfield Wednesday night. The Holy Cross men's team was defeated by Springfield 132-106, dropping their overall record to 0-3 (0-1 Patriot League). The women's team lost a close decision, 128-110, dropping to 1-2 (0-1 Patriot League).
Gousman was a double event winner for the women's team, touching the wall first in the 200 yard breaststroke (2:32.16) and swimming a season-best in the 200 yard individual medley (2:17.88). Also finishing first, with season best performances was freshman Annie O'Shea (Washington, D.C.) in the 200 yard butterfly (2:13.39), junior Rachael Martinez (Chelmsford, Mass.) in the one meter dive (235.65) and freshman Maggie Beaudouin (Madison, N.J.) in the 1000 yard freestyle (11:00.41).
The Holy Cross men's team had multiple top finishers with season best performances. Junior Aaron Brosnan (Westford, Mass.) finished first in the 200 butterfly for the Crusaders with a season best time of 2:20.17, sophomore Aidan McGrath (Quincy, Mass.) swam a season best 2:09.50 in the 200 yard backstroke and freshman Michael Burns (East Amherst N.Y.) finished first in the 200 breaststroke with a season best performance (2:20.47).
The women's swimming and diving team travels to Loudonville, N.Y. on October 29 for a 6:00 p.m. match up against Siena, while the men's team returns to Patriot League action with Army on November 5.
