ANNAPOLIS, Md. - The Holy Cross men's and women's swimming and diving teams completed their 2005-06 season at the Patriot League Championships. Both teams finished in eighth place in three days worth of events from Feb. 23 to Feb. 25.
The women's team accumulated 132 points overall as the men totaled 113 points. Bucknell won the women's overall meet with 744 points and Navy was victorious on the men's side with 853 points.
Senior Emily Ferris (Rockville Center, N.Y.) was the best overall individual finisher on the weekend as she took 10th in the 100-yard backstroke with a time of 1:00.44.
Sophomore Andrea Doherty (Needham, Mass.) set a new school record in the 100-yard butterfly en route to a 12th place finish with a time of 59.30.
Ferris and Doherty teamed up with sophomore Erica Archer (Schenectady, N.Y.) and junior Katherine McGovern (Manchester, Conn.) in the 200-yard freestyle relay event to take sixth place with a time of 1:41.32. The finish was the best placing for a Crusader relay team over the weekend.
Another strong finish for the women was by freshman Maddie Alanis (La Jolla, Calif.), who took 15th place in the 400-yard IM with a time of 4:44.33.
McGovern and sophomore Amanda Dugan (Saddie River, N.J.) each took 16th place in the 100-yard breaststroke and the 1650-yard freestyle, resprectively.
On the men's side, junior Brian Jackson (Phoenixville, Pa.) swam the 200-yard butterfly in a time of 2:02.00 to take 15th place.
Sophomore Christopher Smith (West Haven, Conn.) took 16th overall in the 1650-yard freestyle event with a time of 17.25.67. Freshman John Ringwood (Cheshire, Conn.) finished right behind Smith in 17th place.
The Crusader swimming and diving teams have now concluded their 2005-06 season.
