Swimming And Diving Teams Finish Season At patriot league Championships

Annapolis, Md. - The Holy Cross men's and women's swimming and diving both took eighth at the 2008 Patriot League Swimming and Diving Championships over the weekend, held at Navy in Annapolis, Md. The United States Naval academy won both titles. The Holy Cross men's swimming and diving team earned a total of 124 points over the three day event as the women's team earned 150 points in the Championship.

In the women's individual events sophomore Maggie Gousman (Fanwood, N.J.) was the top finisher with an eighth place finish in the 100-yard breaststroke with a time of 1:06.90, setting a new school record. Gousman also finished 10th in the 200-yard breaststroke with a time of 2:25.60, setting a new school record and 13th in the 200-yard IM with a time of 2:12.19. Freshman Gael Carter (Tampa, Fla.) took a 16th place finish in the 100-yard backstroke with a time of 1:02.18 along with sophomore Alisha Carrazza (Boonton Township, N.J.) who finished 16th in the 200-yard freestyle with a time of 1:58.23 to help lead the Crusaders.

In women's diving, sophomore Rachael Martinez (Chelmsford, Mass.) finished with a 10th place finish in the 3 meter dive with 190.20 points and finished 11th in the 1 meter dive with 180.95 points. For the men, sophomore Joshua Rodriguez (Dudley, Mass.) finished 14th in the 1 meter dive with 180.30.

For the men's individual events sophomore Brian Livingston (Auburn, Wa.) led the Crusaders with a 15th place finish in the 100-yard breakstroke with a time of 1:01.37. Livingston also finished 16th in the 200-yard breaststroke with a time of 2:16.95. Sophomore Aaron Brosnan (Westford, Mass.) finished 16th in the 100-yard butterfly with a time of 53.61.

In relays the women's team finished seventh in the 200-yard medley relay with a time of 1:50.79. Apart of this team were senior Andrea Doherty (Needham, Mass.), Carrazza, Carter and Gousman. The men finished seventh in the 200-yard freestyle relay with a time of 1:29.28. Apart of this team were senior Chris Smith (West Haven, Conn.), junior David Drummond (Swampscott, Mass.), sophomore Joseph McShane (Chatham, N.J.) and junior Ian MacLaren (Cortez, Colo.).

Both Crusader swimming and diving teams have concluded the 2007-2008 season.
