Women's Swimming & Diving Topped By Fairfield

Worcester, Mass. - The Holy Cross women's swimming and diving team was defeated in their final meet of the regular season on Saturday, losing to Fairfield 128-110 at the Hart Center Pool. The Crusaders won five events on the day, including four individual events and one relay. Freshman Maggie Gousman (Fanwood, N.J.) won two events in the meet: the 200-yard IM and the 200-yard breaststroke. Also winning events for the Crusaders: freshmen Lauren Tatro (Charlotte, N.C.) and Alisha Carrazza (Boonton Township, N.J.). Holy Cross swimmers would also win the 400-yard freestyle relay.
Carrazza earned her victory in the 200-yard freestyle relay. Her time of 2:02.70 edged out two swimmers from Fairfield. Tatro took fourth in the event, finishing in 2:08.49. Freshman Stephanie Opolski (Haverhill, Mass.) placed fifth with a time of 2:08.61. Tatro won the 200-yard backstroke in 2:18.81, beating three Fairfield swimmers.
Gousman would win the 200-yard IM in 2:18.81, beating her closest competitor by over four seconds. Junior Rachel Quaden (Chelmsford, Mass.) placed third, touching the pad in 2:26.59. Freshman Bridget Cass (Laconia, N.H.) finished in 2:34.59 and in fifth place. In the 200-yard breaststroke, Gousman covered the distance in 2:34.63, narrowly edging out three Stag swimmers for the win.
Carrazza, junior Erica Archer (Schenectady, N.Y.), junior Andrea Doherty (Needham, Mass.) and sophomore Maddie Alanis (La Jolla, Calif.) teamed up to win the 400-yard freestyle relay in 3:49.36. Other highlights from the meet include Alanis' second place finish in the 1000-yard freestyle in 11:35.84. Archer placed second in the 50-yard freestyle, touching the pad in 25.81. Doherty also took second in the 200-yard butterfly, finishing in 2:17.60.
In the diving events, freshman Rachael Martinez (Chelmsford, Mass.) placed second off of both the 1-meter and 3-meter boards. Martinez earned 224.32 points in the 1-meter event and 227.46 points on the 3-meter board. Senior Aislinn Kelly (Sandwich, Mass.) took fourth in both events.
The Holy Cross women's swimming and diving team wrapped up the regular season against Fairfield. Next up for the Crusaders: The Patriot League Championships. This year, Bucknell is hosting the three-day meet in Lewisburg, Pa. Events are scheduled to start at 10 am on Thursday, February 15.
