Worcester, Mass. - The Holy Cross women's swimming and diving team prevailed in the two-day Worcester City Championships that took place Friday night and Saturday afternoon. Three Worcester schools, Holy Cross, Clark University and Worcester Polytechnic Institute, all participated in the annual event.

On a day in which several championship records were set, the Crusader women led from start to finish. Holy Cross totaled 479 points to take first as Clark scored 290 for second. WPI took third with 254 points.

The women won the first team event, the 400-yard medley relay in convincing fashion with a time of 4:14.43 and never looked back. Fellow freshmen Maddie Alanis (La Jolla, Calif.) and Dana Jorgensen (New City, N.Y.) won the 1650-yard freestyle and 200-yard IM, respectively.

The Crusader 200-yard freestyle and medley relay teams also got victories on the weekend.

Sophomore Andrea Doherty (Needham, Mass.) continued her strong season, claiming wins in both the 200-yard freestyle and 200-yard butterfly. Senior Emily Ferris (Rockville Center, N.Y.) paced the 100-yard backstroke in a time of 1:04.06 as did sophomore Erica Archer (Schenectady, N.Y.) in the 50-yard freestyle (25.83).

On Saturday afternoon, Ferris, Doherty, Jorgensen, and Alanis all picked up another individual victory as did freshman Caitlin Duggan (Norwood, Mass.) in the 100-yard freestyle.

The Crusader women will return to action on Tuesday, January 31 at 6:00 p.m. when they host Connecticut in the final home meet of the season at the Hart Center.
