Fairfield, Conn. - The Holy Cross men's and women's swimming and diving teams traveled to Fairfield University for a meet on Saturday afternoon. On the day, the Stags won both meets. The Crusader men fell 144-96 as the women were beaten 151-92.
For the men, freshman Matthew Grogan (Allenwood, N.J.) took first in the 100-meter freestyle in a time of 56.22. Grogan also had a second place showing in the 200-meter freestyle.
Junior Brian Jackson (Phoenixville, Pa.) also won his event, the 200-meter butterfly win a time of 2:25.97. Another freshman, Kevin Kitson (Chappaqua, N.Y.), took first in the 50-meter freestyle in 26.02.
On the women's side, Andrea Doherty (Needham, Mass.) won two individual events to lead the Crusaders. Doherty took paced the 200-meter freestyle meet in 2:16.71 and also took first in the 200-meter butterfly in 2:33.76.
Freshman Maddie Alanis (La Jolla, Calif.) had two runner-up finishes on the afternoon in the 200-meter breaststroke and the 400-meter freestyle.
Holy Cross will compete again on Friday and Saturday, January 27-28 in the two-day Worcester City Championships. The Friday meet will begin at 6:00 p.m. while Saturday's events will start at 10:00 a.m.
