Storrs, Conn. - The Holy Cross women's swimming and diving team lost to the UConn Huskies 145-111 on Sunday afternoon. The Crusaders would take five Events from the Huskies on the day. Freshman Maggie Gousman (Fanwood, N.J.) got the first Holy Cross win of the day, swimming the 100 yard breaststroke in 1:10.69. Junior Andrea Doherty (Needham, Mass.) won the 50 yard butterfly in 27.54. Doherty also came in second in the 100 yard butterfly, touching the pad in 1:00.92. Sophomore Maddie Alanis (La Jolla, Calif.) placed first in the 400 yard IM, finishing in 4:52.95. Freshman Alisha Carrazza (Boonton Township, N.J.) took second in the event, covering the 400 yards in 5:05.99.

The 200 yard freestyle relay team compiled of senior Erica Archer (Schenectady, N.Y.), Gousman, Doherty and Carrazza finished the relay in 1:42.75, taking first. The team of freshman Stephanie Opolski (Haverhill, Mass.), sophomores Katelyn Duffy (Franklin Lakes, N.J) Emily Cupelo (Manlius, N.Y.) and Caitlin Duggan (Norwood, Mass.) took second in the event, finishing in 1:58.47.

Freshman diver Rachael Martinez (Chelmsford, Mass.) won the 3M diving event earning 215 points over six dives. On the 1M board, Martinez took fourth, receiving 204.98 points over six dives. Senior Aislinn Kelly (Sandwich, Mass.) took second in the 3M diving event earning 164.55 points as teammate freshman Juliette Cormier (Morrisville, Vt.) took third with 107.10 points. On the 1M board, Kelly took fifth, accumulating 173 points on her six dives.

Other Crusader highlights on the day, Carrazza took second in the 200 yard freestyle, finishing in 2:00.39. Her time was only .01 behind UConn's Jordan Zarin. Archer took fourth in the event, finishing in 2:04.10. Junior Rachel Quaden (Chelmsford, Mass.) finished the 50 yard backstroke in 31.10, taking fourth. Freshmen Lauren Tatro (Charlotte, N.C.) and Bridget Cass (Laconia, N.H.) took fifth and sixth in the event, touching the pad in 31.12 and 32.34, respectively. Tatro also finished in second in the 100 yard backstroke, swimming the 100 yards in 1:05.68. Cass took fourth in 1:11.08 and Cupelo took fifth in 1:13.72.

Archer took second place in the 50 yard freestyle. Her time of 26.40 was in the middle of three Huskies. Carrazza took third in the 100 yard freestyle, swimming the event in 56.39.

Holy Cross returns to the Hart Center Pool on Friday January 26 for the Worcester City Championships. Meet time is scheduled for 5:00 pm.
