Women's Swimming & Diving Falls To Providence

WORCESTER, Mass. – The women's swimming and diving team fell to Providence Saturday afternoon at the Hart Center by a final of 220-69. Four Crusaders took individual second place finishes including freshman Gina DeFloria (Greensburg, Pa.) in the 100 breaststroke (1:12.67), freshman Marielle Pavek (Lake Ronkonkoma, N.Y.) in the 50 freestyle (25.24), freshman Colleen Harrison (Lake Forest, Ill.) in the 500 freestyle (5:31.98) and freshman Alicia Perry (Sudbury, Mass.) in the 100 butterfly (1:03.59).

The 400-yard freestyle and 200-yard medley relay teams also added second place finishes. The 400 team was comprised of Harrison, Perry, junior Mary Kate Schulte (Des Moines, Iowa) and Pavek and finished with a time of 3:50.59. The 200 team was made up of freshman Kaitlin Jacob (New Milford, N.J.), DeFloria, freshman Jessie Cashman (Haddonfield, N.J.) and Pavek finished at 1:54.89.

Pavek added a third place finish in the 100 freestyle with a time of 56.04. Other top-three performers for Holy Cross included junior Alicia LiCalzi (New Canaan, Conn.) who finished third in the one-meter dive with a score of 158.18 and senior Eileen McGowan (Winston-Salem, N.C.) who touched the wall third with a time of 2:44.25 in the 200 breaststroke. LiCalzi also was the lone competitor in the three-meter dive and finished with a score of 154.80.

Prior to the start of their final meet at the Hart Center, head coach Barry Parenteau and assistant coaches Wil Aybar and Ian Hennessey honored McGowan and fellow seniors Cassandra Perry (Sudbury, Mass.) and Kelsey Poremba (Bedford, N.H.) for their hard work and dedication to the team over the past four years.
