KINGSTON, R.I. – The Holy Cross women's swimming and diving team traveled to the Harold Anderson Invitational on Friday and Saturday, hosted by Rhode Island. The Crusaders finished sixth in the team competition as freshman Marielle Pavek (Lake Ronkonkoma, N.Y.) led the Crusaders with a fourth place finish in the 100-yard freestyle and time of 53.56 and fifth place finish in the 50 freestyle at 24.58. Rhode Island won the team event with 1,021 points.
Freshman Alicia Perry (Sudbury, Mass.) also posted a top-five finish for the Crusaders, taking fifth in the 200 individual medley with a time of 2:14.44. Perry also finished 11th in the 100 butterfly at 1:00.94. Other top finishers for Holy Cross included sophomore Claire O'Brien (Bedford, N.Y.) who finished 11th in the 200 backstroke at 2:13.52 and junior Anna Villani (Hanover, Mass.) who took 13th in the 200 butterfly at 2:18.46. Freshman Kaitlin Jacob (New Milford, N.J.) touched the wall in 14th place in the 100 backstroke at 1:02.27 and fellow classmate Colleen Harrison (Lake Forest, Ill.) took 14th in the 1,000 freestyle with a time of 11:06.12.
The 400-yard freestyle relay team comprised of Harrison, Perry, junior Mary Kate Schulte (Des Moines, Iowa) and Pavek finished fourth with a time of 3:39.06 and the 200 freestyle team of Pavek, Perry, freshman Gina DeFloria (Greensburg, Pa.) and Schulte took sixth at 1:41.17. On the diving side, the Crusaders were led by junior Alicia LiCalzi (New Canaan, Conn.) who finished sixth in the three-meter dive (174.00) and ninth in the one-meter dive (164.70).
The women's swimming and diving team will have eight weeks off before returning to competition at the Worcester City Championship on Jan. 17-18.
