FAIRFIELD, Conn – The women's swimming and diving team fell to Fairfield on Saturday afternoon in dual competition on the road by a tally of 159.5-135.5. The Crusaders earned six first place finishes as both the 200-meter medley relay and 400-meter freestyle relay teams won with times of 2:07.84 and 4:10.46, respectively.
The 200 MR team was comprised of freshmen Kaitlin Jacob (New Milford, N.J.), Gina DeFloria (Greensburg, Pa.), Jessie Cashman (Haddonfield, N.J.) and Marielle Pavek (Lake Ronkonkoma, N.Y.) while the 400 free team was made up of freshman Colleen Harrison (Lake Forest, Ill.), freshman Alicia Perry (Sudbury, Mass.), junior Mary Kate Schulte (Des Moines, Iowa) and Pavek. Freshman Kristin Lane (White Plains, N.Y.) touched the wall first in the 200-meter butterfly (2:38.63), Pavek won the 50 free (27.86) and 100 free (1:01.15) and Perry took first in the 100 fly (1:09.28).
The Crusaders added nine second place finishes on the afternoon including Perry in the 200 free (2:15.95) and 200 IM (2:34.58), Cashman in the 100 back (1:12.07) and 100 fly (1:11.31), DeFloria in the 100 breast (1:17.46), junior Anna Villani (Hanover, Mass.) in the 200 fly (2:40.90), Harrison in the 100 free (1:02.53) and 400 free (4:42.23), sophomore Claire O'Brien (Bedford, N.Y.) in the 200 back (2:37.81) and Lane finished tied for second in the 800-meter freestyle with a time of 9:45.81.
On the diving side, junior Alicia LiCalzi (New Canaan, Conn.) represented Holy Cross and finished fourth in the one and three-meter dives with scores of 145.95 and 135.23, respectively.
Holy Cross will return to action on Friday and Saturday, Oct. 18-19, at the New England Catholic Invitational.
