Women’s Swimming & Diving Takes First At Worcester City Championship
WORCESTER, Mass. - The Holy Cross women's swimming & diving team won 13 events, including a sweep in the 100 yard freestyle, butterfly, breaststroke and backstroke, as it finished first at the 11th annual Worcester City Championship held at the Hart Center. Holy Cross finished first with 648 points, while Assumption finished second with 446 points, Clark took third with 310 points and WPI finished fourth with 278 points. This win marks the Crusaders 11th Worcester City Championship win, winning it all 11 years in its existence. Senior Maggie Beaudouin (Madison, N.J.) was named the Swimmer of the Meet as she won the 400 yard IM with a time of 4:46.98 setting a new meet record, won the 100 yard backstroke with a time of 1:02.24 and won the 200 yard backstroke setting a new meet record with a time of 2:11.85.
Junior Kristen Desrosiers (Gorham, Maine) won the 200 yard IM with a time of 2:13.60, won the 200 yard freestyle with a time of 2:00.36 and won the 100 yard freestyle with a time of 56.26 seconds to lead the Crusaders. Also leading Holy Cross with first place finishes was junior Natalie Livingston (Auburn, Wash.) in the 100 yard breaststroke with a time of 1:11.06, sophomore Kelsey Poremba (Bedford, N.H.) in the 50 yard freestyle with a time of 26.42 seconds. First place finish in the 200 yard breaststroke went to junior Katelyn Desrosiers (Gorham, Maine) with a time of 2:36.01, while junior Samantha Hullihen (Pelham, N.H.) finished in first place with a time of 1:01.51 in the 100 yard butterfly.
The Crusaders swept the 200 and 400 yard medley relay as well as the 200 and 400 freestyle relay. The team who placed first in the 200 yard medley relay consisted of Kristen Desrosiers, Livingston, Hullihen and Beaudouin. The 400 yard medley relay first place team consisted of Kristen Desrosiers, Livingston, senior Annie O'Shea (Washington, D.C.) and Beaudouin. The team who placed first in the 200 yard freestyle relay consisted of Beaudouin, freshman Mary Kate Schulte (Des Moines, Iowa), junior Laura Webber (Hampden, Mass.) and Kristen Desrosiers. The 400 yard freestyle relay first place team consisted of Beaudouin, junior Gina Mannix (Larchmont, N.Y.), Webber and Kristen Desrosiers.
The Holy Cross women's swimming and diving team will continue action next week when it meets Providence in Worcester on Jan. 28 for a dual meet with the Friars.
