KINGSTON, R.I. – The Holy Cross men's and women's swimming and diving team traveled to Kingston, R.I. on Friday-Saturday, Dec. 2-3 for the Harold Anderson Invitational. The men's team finished fourth overall, with Providence taking home the team title. The women's team finished sixth, with host Rhode Island winning the team title.
The men's team was led by sophomore Jan Yburan (Livingston, N.J. ) with a second place finish in the 50 Free (22.17), a fourth place fininsh in the 100 Back (55.65) and a seventh place finish in the 200 Back (2:04.16). Junior Brian Lyons (Greenwich, Conn.) came in third for the 1000 Free (10:30.64) and finished eighth in the 200 Free (1:50.75). Sophomore Kevin O'Connor (Ridgewood, N.J.) placed fifth in the 1000 Free (10:45.57), ninth in the 200 Fly (2:12.67) and in the 11th 500 free (5:18.23). Freshman diver Brendan Higgins (Summit, N.J.) had a pair of third place showings in the 3 meter diving (169.45 points)and also in the 1 meter diving (155.65 points).
For the women, sophomore Megan Markand (Westford, Mass.) finished ninth in the 100 Back (102.17). Junior Kristen Desrosiers (Gorham, Maine) came in 10th in the 200 IM (2:15.92), 13th in the 200 Free (2:01.68) and 20th in the 100 Free (56.31). Junior Natalie Livingston (Auburn, Wash.) placed 11th in the 100 Breast (1:10.96). Senior Annie O'Shea (Washington, D.C.) finished 11th in the 1000 Free (11:23.67) and 13th in the 100 Fly (1:02.72).
Holy Cross will take a break from competition until after the New Year, returning to the pool for the Worcester City Championship on Jan. 20-21 at the Hart Center.
